The School Council of ‘Compton and Up-Marden’ 2009 - 10
would like to welcome you to our site and tell you a little about what we do
……
In September, each year group has the opportunity to elect two of their
classmates to become School Council representatives. At the moment we are a
group of ten but two more children will join us from the Reception class as
the year goes on.
It is a privilege for those of us who are elected and we wear a badge and
have our own motto:
BE PROUD-STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD
We sometimes get to meet important visitors to the school, for example
Bishop Lindsay who asked us about the things we do.
The chair of governors and the head-teacher are invited to attend our
meetings to hear our views.
It is our responsibility to gather the views of other children in each class
and keep them informed of any discussion and decisions that are made to do
with school life.
One of our teachers helps us with the meetings and records ‘minutes’ but we
take it in turns to ‘chair’ the meeting and we meet every other week in our
lunchtime.
A quote from a member says ‘We do it because we want our school to be good
for everyone in it’
During the summer months we made a willow screen which we can sit in the
shelter of as a quiet area with books and handicraft activities during
lunchtime.
We are currently investigating the idea of having some picnic tables to
extend tabletop activities and quiet sitting places for playtimes.
As a whole school, we recently had a fantastic ‘Skipathon’ event and as well
as keeping ourselves fit and very active for the day, we raised lots of
money for the British Heart Foundation.
We are only just beginning to think about adding things to our website to
make it interesting for children to look at but our Newsletter link shows
some of the exciting work that goes on all the time at our school.
