| The Curriculum is the whole learning experience offered by our school and includes the standards, values and attitudes promoted by the school. Policy documents covering individual subjects are in school and are available for parents to view if they wish. THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM Since September 2000 the school has followed the revised National Curriculum, and also follows the syllabus offered by the National Literacy Strategy and the National Numeracy Strategy. Children aged 4-7, years R, 1 and 2, are referred to as Key Stage 1 pupils; children aged 7-11, years 3,4, 5 and 6, are referred to as Key Stage 2. ASSESSMENT The school will be setting targets for English and Maths with the Local Education Authority. As each child enters school the class teacher will, in partnership with parents, assess the child using the West Sussex Foundation Stage Profiles. Teacher assessments and standardised tests are used to inform teachers' planning as the child progresses through the school. At the end of Key Stage 1, when a child is 7 years old, National Curriculum Tests for English and Maths take place. The results are published for parents with Teacher Assessments in English, Maths and Science. At the end of Key Stage 2, when a child is 11 years old, Tests for English, Maths and Science take place. The results are published with Teacher Assessments in English, Maths and Science. Teacher Assessments have equal status with Test results. Optional tests for pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 take place in the summer term. Our school's current SATS results are provided as soon as they become available, usually in July - see the end of this section. The results for Key Stage 2 are published nationally if there are 10 or more pupils in the year group. |
