Introduction

Starting school is a very important step in a child's life and changing schools can be traumatic. Our aim is to make this transition as smooth as possible by further developing areas of understanding, knowledge and skills that have already begun at home or in a previous school.

The school is at the hub of the community and every child should be given the opportunity to develop his or her potential to the full, in preparation for their future life. This we hope is achieved through the friendly, caring atmosphere developed between home, school, the church, and the community.

We strive to provide a learning environment that enables the children to become self-motivated, independent, confident learners who achieve to the best of their ability. We seek to provide learning opportunities that enhance the national Curriculum and develop in the children a responsibility for themselves, their community and the environment. We aim to offer a broad and balanced curriculum which strives to achieve high academic standards but also one which provides opportunities to develop creative and spiritual awareness through art, Museumic and drama.

The link with parents is crucial to each child's success and we aim to develop a close partnership as soon as possible. We provide regular communication to parents through our twice-termly newsletter. The school welcomes parental contributions to the school community, creating opportunities to help in class, with visits or by involvement in our Friends of Compton & Up Marden School association.

We aim to make children's time with us exciting, challenging and happy, in order that they become well balanced, confident individuals who can achieve the highest standards and reach their true potential. Our small
rural school community offers every child the opportunity to feel valued and important.

The Aims of Compton and Upmarden Primary School are:

• To establish a secure, happy, caring and welcoming community where noticeable, respect, support, trust and co-operation exists between children, staff, parents and the community.

• To foster positive attitudes towards learning, encouraging the children to become self-disciplined, confident and co-operative, in order to equip them to address the challenges of everyday life.

• To provide a stimulating and lively environment in order to motivate the children extend their natural curiosity, showing respect and value for their work whilst encouraging high standards of presentation,

• To work closely with the local church community and the Diocese network in order to maintain and develop the distinctive Christian Ethos of the school.

• To provide a broad and balanced curriculum ensuring equal access and opportunity for all regardless of physical or emotional needs, ethnic or social background.

• To establish systems of monitoring and evaluation that enable effective ongoing development of the school.

•  To develop a sense of meaning and purpose in their life through developing moral, spiritual and religious understanding.

•  To provide learning situations that take account of each child’s individuality and particular needs helping them to achieve their individual potential.

• To promote a developing awareness that the school is part of a wider community and to involve the children in matters of care and concern for both the immediate environment and for wider global issues.
